Eating for Life -

Project Overview

Such a massive agenda could not be addressed in a small scale project such as this, so the principal aim of this project is therefore to introduce the basic principles of healthy eating to schools, and to develop effective ways to encourage students and school communities to examine their eating habits and modify them in order to promote healthy outcomes.

What we will be doing on the Eating for Life Project

Students will learn and experiment with the basic principles of a healthy diet involving science subjects like chemistry and biology, then they will apply this acquired knowledge to activities such as cooking, hotel catering etc, and will apply everything to ideas about body fitness, sports science and physical education with the main aim of developing an improved awareness of the necessity of healthy eating to be implemented in a healthy life-style,  and to help prevent eating disorders and illnesses. All of these activities will help to develop the basic skills of maths, literacy, and also foreign languages, in a positive and active way.

Project Update

So far in the Eating for Life Project we have had a lot of exciting experience and have explored lots of different aspects of healthy eating, including: our diets, the impact of healthy eating and unhealthy eating, healthy breakfasts, traditional foods and unhealthy snacks. We have has our students making surveys and documents to be distributed to there peers to find out about eating habits, and we all continue to research this as the project is progressing.

So far we have had three student mobility's, Portugal, Malta and Norway. At these meeting students have had the opportunity to explore the local region, taste local cuisine, participate in seminars and share finding about healthy eating in their countires. The students have also had an opportunity to make lasting friendships with other students and now keep in contact via social media. We are looking forward to the next student mobility in Poland. We will keep you posted.

What we will be producing on the Eating for Life Project

Students will develop some resources to promote and support healthy eating so that the work of the partnership can be disseminated locally, regionally and nationally. This will include the collation of healthy recipes from each of the project partners.

Food and nutrition education will also be promoted in each partner school as a curricular activity, fully integrated in the schools' educational programmes.
